Antigone,

Thank you for caring what happens tomorrow. I’m saying that both to you and the kind words you had for our (eventual) outcome of our democratic republic, and to the democratic republic for not faltering twice in a row. A democracy says one vote is one vote, but arrogant forefathers full of hubris decided the general populous was too stupid to pick their President, so they put in this “failsafe” of the Electoral College…which now has been so bastardized with party preference that it’s merely a grand way of gerrymandering the system.

Uggh…too many political words I really wish I didn’t have to know.

Anyway, the popular vote actually voted in our President (this time), and it seems like a return to competence and general understanding of the general good to be done. Even as previous politicians established their own visions of happiness, they did so with a thought of what actually is good for people…wow, I totally depressed myself writing that last sentence and realizing how naïve and incorrect it is. But at least our new President is not a boasting, arrogant, openly racist prick of a human being. That is what makes me so happy today.

Please, talk more of Germany.

Small and big.

I feel we as a collective American Society are longing to reconnect, personally and politically, with the outside world. Now we have a leadership that understands that need for connection, for collaboration, for mutual appreciations for our differences as much as our similarities.

I’m ready to listen more. We’re more ready to listen. (And it’s about time.)

Best,

Jon
